It's all...fugly.

I picked up the school newspaper for the first time today. Here're some snippets of interesting articles:

"A University Police officer shot and wounded a male suspect in Kerckhoff Hall Sunday night at about 9.50 p.m. The man was transported to the UCLA hospital.

"Police did not identify by name either the officer or the suspect. Early this morning, hospital officials would not comment on the suspect's condition, saying they couldn't do so without a name.

"The police officer who fired shots as on a routine foot patrol in Kerckhoff when he encountered a 'tresspassing suspect' in the second floor study lounge, according to a statement from university police. A physical altercation ensued and, fearing for his life, the officer fired two shots. One hit the suspect, the statement said"

And another one, which is perhaps more entertaining:

"UCLA classics Professor Andrew Dyck was arrested Thursday for allegedly sending pornographic material to a 13-year-old Simi Valley girl over the Internet.

"Police said after 56-year-old Dyck was informed of his case by the Simi Valley police department, he reported to the police station.

"Dyck was later taken from the police department to the Ventura County Main Jail where he was released on a $10,000 bail, police said"

So here I am at UCLA, and here's my first post from here. I have a shit of a lot to do tomorrow, and I'm a bit tired right now (not to mention riduculously full), but I just wanted to rant about the fact that I've lost the ability to use Direct Connect, but gained the ability to use Bit Torrent. Now, to me, I think I'd rather have DC, and would like to somehow magically get it back. So who wants to help Spiff? :D?

So we just got the sample ballot in the mail, and it's a pretty interesting read. I'll show some highlights of the candidates:

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Actor/Businessman
-We all knew he'd be on it, but it's still kind of surreal seeing "Ah"nold's name on a ballot.

Leo Gallagher - Comedian, Mary "Mary Carey" Cook - Adult Film Actress, Gary Coleman - Actor (security guard seems to be missing here)
- See above, with appropriate substitutions.

There are a couple here that have no first names, which puzzles me somewhat. They simply have their first initial and last name, like S. Issa. Don't understand that at all. Are these people embarassed of having their first name leaked, and thus their private lives would be opened to ridicule and whatnot? I dunno.

Ronald Jason Palmieri - Gay Rights Attorney
- Reality check, please?

Robert "Butch" Dole - Small Business owner
- Didn't know Bob Dole was nicknamed Butch (yes, I realize it's not THAT Bob Dole, but it's still amusering).

Ned Roscoe - Cigarette Retailer
- I suppose selling only tobacco products and accessories is a legitimate business, but I can't shake off the feeling that this guy would be prone to certain "special interests."

Kurt E. "Tachikaze" Rightmyer - Middleweight Sumo Wrestler
- Rightmyer doesn't sound Asian. I support no Japanophiles!

Michael Jackson - Satellite Project Manager
- Again, not THE Michael Jackson (as his occupation isn't listed as Pedophile), but it's some easy publicity.

Paul "Chip" Mailander - Golf Professional
- Golf Professional reads Old White Man

Angelyne - Entertainer
- I wonder what kind of entertainer's only have one name...
